Benefiting Locks of Love

Our club hosted our 4rd Annual "Global Beauty Day," which partners our club with Locks of Love and Pure Elements Salon, on May 16th. It is a day of energy and happy tears. Here is a linked video from the 1st GBD that a proud father made of his donating girls - they had seen a young girl at church and decided to donate their own hair to make wigs so other girls would have hair while going through health issues.

Lots of joyful tears are part of this day! In the past four annual events, generous community members have donated over 3,200 inches of hair to Locks of Love(r). The events have also raised over $4,000 to improve the lives of women and girls through our club's programs/projects.

This Soroptimist video showcases the Soroptimist mission and the way the organization works to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.

Extreme Team Updates

Join SIHV as we again participate in the 3rd Annual 5K Walk-N-Run for Success to be held on March 27th, 2011 at ASU West. The purpose of the 5K is to increase awareness of the single mom college community and raise funds to assist low-income single mom college students. HHSM is an award winning non-profit that has assisted over 150 young mothers in achieving a college education in its eight years as an organization.

Join SIHV for the 18th Annual Komen Phoenix Race for the Cure! SIHV participated in the 3-Day Susan G. Komen Walk and are continuing the tradition with members walking a 5K in this one day event on 10-10-10! The signature event of the Phoenix Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure(r), the Phoenix Race for the Cure helps raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. Since their beginnings in 1993, the Affiliate has raised over $18 million to fight breast cancer for research and the local Community Grant program. Up to 75% of all monies raised stays within our local community, and 25% funds the Komen Award and Research Grant Program. Come walk with us!

2010 Leadership Conference

3-D leaders are women who have three characteristics in common: the ability to focus on the mission of the organization; the ability to rally their resources, and the ability to strategically adapt to their club's changing needs. SIHV members displayed their leadership through participation in the 2010 Golden West Region Leadership Training Retreat with the theme of 3-D Leadership. Our own member, Penny Babb who is GWR Secretary, presented "Calling All Leaders - Jump On Board" a 3-D Polar Express movie inspired leadership presentation.

2010 Spring Conference

The GWR 32nd Spring Conference at the La Quinta Resort and Club in beautiful La Quinta, California was themed “Rejuvenate Your Soroptimist Spirit”! And boy did attending members renew their excitement in the Soroptimist organization. Club members from Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas gathered to celebrate our achievements in our own communities and throughout the world along with learning new information on issues that impact women. Additionally, the gathering honored club presidents (Deborah Moyer) and “Rise to the Challenge” Club Soroptimist honorees (Londa Spaulding), recognized clubs receiving top honors in the Programme Focus areas, and met the finalists for the Women’s Opportunity Award, the Violet Richardson Award, and the new Soroptimist Ruby Award. SIHV member, Penny Babb, was elected to the GWR Region Board as our 2010-2012 Secretary. There is so much to celebrate and we did our best! COMING EVENTS!

SIHV is planning our 1st Annual "Independence Day" to be held in July, 2011. It's a one day event to help overcome the issues faced by women entering the workforce for the first time or women returning to the workforce. Stay tuned for updates as this celebration of spirit and plan for success takes off!
